When that collection started picking up momentum, they fired her and told her to pursue her own collection. If you were efficient, there was a finite amount of work. She would see me do [my own work] and when she fired me it was gentle and a slap in the face at the same time. I need a paycheck.
Minkoff started with a five-piece collection, and most of it was selling deconstructed I Love New York T-shirts. They kept writing about that shirt. It was in Us Weekly like five times. It was in OK magazine, it was in In Style.
It just kept fueling it. Elfman used another one in the movie instead. You could go out and meet your Mr. Over the next four years, they grew percent.
Sometimes we can get so stuck. And we did it from a point of strength. Today, the business is 80 percent accessories, and 20 percent apparel. It clearly has momentum, and come back to the clothing when we have extra money, or a better partner? At first, Uri Minkoff came up from Florida once a month, and they had phone calls every month.

Do you have sort of an ideal image of millennial women? What does she look like to you? I can tell you her psychographic, not her look. She wants fashion pieces that are multi-functional and can go along with her fast-paced life. All the key moments modern women tend to have, you know?
That segues into my next question. What do you think of that term? Is it real? I believe that women aspire to have something that is well made and have a strong brand that ties into some of her values and beliefs. She intently watched as a makeup artist carefully applied her palette on a young model, making selections for Rebecca and her creative director to approve.
